ABout MHoS (Mobile Health Outreach Service)
What can I expect from this service?
The service provides clean injecting equipment such as needles and syringes to people who inject drugs and supports street based sex workers to maintain safe sex practise by providing condoms and lube. The MHOS program also offers up to date information and education to people who inject drugs on:
- Safe injecting practises
- Vein & wound care
- Safe sex
- Hepatitis C treatment options
- Supportive primary health services
What does Star Health do that’s different?
Star Health has maintained a commitment to improve the health of people who inject drugs and street sex workers for more than 20 years and was one of the first organisations in Victoria to provide street based outreach services.
A more recent initiative of Star Health in the area of Harm Reduction is the installation of Safe Dispensing Units (SDU). SDU’s have been operating in NSW for a number of years, however they are a new concept in Victoria.
Star Health is leading the way with the introduction of three SDU’s across the catchment. For more information on Safe Dispensing Units and their locations please call the MHOS program on 0419 204 811.
How do I access service?
 Eligibility requirements
Any member of the community who injects drugs, or is involved in the sex industry is eligible to access the MHOS program for clean injecting equipment, condoms, lube, information or referrals to other services including primary health or alcohol or drug related services.
When is the service delivered
Office based service:      Monday – Friday 9.00am – 5.00pm
Outreach Service Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 5.00pm – 11.00pm

The MHOS program operates across the municipalities of Port Phillip, Stonnington, Glen Eira, Kingston and Bayside

PARTi Project
The Peer Advocacy Response Training initiative (PARTi) Project is a partnership project between Star Health AOD and Health Promotion teams and the Victorian AIDS Council. The project aims to empower nightclubs in the Stonnington and Port Phillip area to build harm reduction capacity and create safer and supportive environments. The PARTi Project is led by three Peer Leaders who will develop responsive training programs with late night venues in response to the varied needs of each individual establishment. The PARTi Project team will develop long-term relationships with these venues to strengthen their capacity and confidence in applying harm reduction strategies and to foster a safe, peer-centred culture within the setting. The peers will develop an online resource for nightclubs and young people to share information and experiences relating to party drugs, as well as offering simple, accessible information on these drugs and their interactions.
