Social Health & Inclusion Port

The Social Health & Inclusion Port (SHIP) Project is a partnership between residents of Port Melbourne and local agencies. The aim of SHIP is to promote and support a connected, healthy and inclusive Port Melbourne.

SHIP does this by supporting residents to turn their ideas into activities and projects, letting people know about opportunities to participate and connect, and building connections between residents and agencies so that resources and skills can be shared and used for the benefit of the whole community.

The SHIP project started in 2013 and since then has supported a wide range of successful community initiatives including:

  • PORTogether: collecting and sharing stories of where people connect to place and to each other in Port Melbourne
  • Waterfront Welcomers: a volunteer program welcoming visitors to Port Melbourne
  • Port Melbourne Icebergs: a weekly dip in the bay and coffee on a Saturday morning

How do I get involved?

Most SHIP activities are open to anyone who is interested. Activities run at a range of locations in Port Melbourne and at different times. Most activities are free. Contact us to find out what’s on at the moment.

SHIP is also always on the lookout for new volunteers and ideas. If you would like to help make Port Melbourne healthier and more inclusive, or if you have an idea for a project, we would love to hear from you.
